Is Nucleus A Cell Organelle? 7 Facts You Should Know

Nucleus is the main command centre of the cell which directly regulates all major activities within the cell. Let’s have a quick visit to find out the  answer of Is Nucleus A Cell Organelle or not.

With the concern to the question, the answer is yes, the nucleus is a cell organelle. The cell organelles are cellular structures that perform different functions within the cell associated with cellular growth, division and living.

As the nucleus is one of the most important structures, it regulates directly more or less all cellular activities, most importantly it is the storage of genetic information, responsible for genetic heredity, considered as cell organelle.

Why is the nucleus not a cell organelle?

Nucleus regulates all major activities such as replication, transcription, translation, etc. within the cell.

Just like other cell Organelles such as ribosomes, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, mitochondria, etc. Nucleus is also a cell organelle, considered as the command centre of the cell.

Difference between nucleus and cell organelle?

Just like other cell organelle, nucleus is also one one of them. But there are certain conditions which make the nucleus different from others, making it the command centre of the cell.

The main difference between the nucleus and cell organelle is the presence of the genetic material (DNA or RNA) within nucleus. The genetic material is only found in the nucleus, which is responsible for genetic heredity. Other cell organelles do not contain the genetic material (except mitochondrial DNA or plasmid DNA responsible for additional characteristics features).

Why is the nucleus the most important component of a cell?

The nucleus is the most important component of the cell because it directly regulates all the major metabolic activities (transcription, translation, etc) of the cell. The nucleus stores and protects the genetic material of the cell, also responsible for genetic heredity. It is the primary site of synthesis of ribosomes, proteins, etc. The nucleus controls the cell cycle, specifically cell division and apoptosis also.

Can a nucleus be considered as an organelle?

With the concern to the question, the answer is yes, nucleus is considered as one of the most important cell organelle. From lower to all higher all groups of organisms have nucleus as major cell organelle within their cell.

How is the nucleus considered as an organelle?

The cell organelles are cellular structures that perform different functions within the cell associated with the metabolism of the cell. The nucleus is present in both of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, regulates directly more or less all cellular activities, hence it is considered as the most important cell organelle.

What are the different cell organelles?

There are several different types of cell organelles present within the cell, performing different functions related to the metabolism of the cell.

Some most common cell organelles are-

Cell wall

Cell wall is the outermost covering of the eukaryotic plant cells. It is primarily composed of many polysaccharides such as cellulose, hemicellulose. It holds and protects all the inner parts of the cells. It gives the cell a proper shape and rigidity.

Cell membrane

Cell membrane is the membrane that separates the inner parts of the cell from the outside surroundings, present in both animal and plant (inside the cell wall) cells. It is made up of lipid bilayer, contains membrane proteins within its structure. It holds and protects the inner parts of the cell.

Nucleus

Nucleus is the most important double membrane bound cell organelle, regulates all major cellular activities. The nucleus stores and protects the genetic material of the cell, also responsible for genetic heredity, known as the comand centre of cell.

Endoplasmic reticulum

Endoplasmic reticulam is serve as the main transportation system within eukaryotic cells. The rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) have ribsome molecules attached with their body whereas the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) do not contains ribsomes.

Mitochondria

Mitochondria is one of the most important cell organelle found in animal cells. It is the primary site of chemical energy production of cell through aerobic respiration, hence known as the powerhouse of the cell

Plastid

Plastid is also one of the most important cell organelle found in eukaryotic plant cells only. It is primary site of photosynthesis.

Ribosome

Ribosomes are the protein factory of cell found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Ribosomes are the most important cell organelle accociated with the protein production of cell.

Golgi apparatus

Golgi apparatus is also one of the major cell organnelle found in eukaryotic cells. It perform significant role in sorting, packaging, processing and modification of proteins.

Others

In addition with the mentioned cell organelles there are more structures are found within prokaryotic cells such as anammoxosome, chlorosomes, flagellum, plasmids, pilus, etc. Perform different functions within cell accociated with the metabolism of cell. There are several minor cell organnelles present within the eukaryotic cells such as- acrosome, centrosome, cillium, glycosome, lysosome, mitosome, porosomes, etc.

Conclusion

As a whole we can say that the nucleus is the most important cell organelle found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, known as the comand centre of cell.
